Coaching Staff
Our Wrestling Coaches in Richardson, TX
Every coach at Mustang Elite Wrestling shares the same philosophy: teach fundamentals first, put safety above all else, and build character alongside every wrestling skill.
Our Coaching Philosophy
Great wrestling starts with great fundamentals. At Mustang Elite, we teach stance, motion, level changes, and body positioning before we ever push an athlete toward competition. A wrestler who masters the basics at age seven will outperform a shortcut-taker at fourteen — and will do it safely.
Safety is not a checkbox. We group athletes by age, size, and experience. We teach safe positions from the first practice. We create an environment where a beginner is never overmatched or at risk because they walked in without experience. Most of our wrestlers start with zero prior experience, and that is by design — our programs are built for them.
Above all, we coach the whole person. Sportsmanship, discipline, and respect are non-negotiable on our mat. The work ethic a young wrestler builds during a season at Mustang Elite carries into the classroom, into RISD high-school programs, and into adult life. That is the real return on the sport.
Rick Ibarra
Head Coach & Founder
Rick (Richard) Ibarra is the head coach and founder of Mustang Elite Wrestling — the Richardson Mustang Wrestling Club — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit he established to give Richardson-area kids an affordable, welcoming place to learn the sport of wrestling.
Coach Ibarra leads the club's K–8 program out of J.J. Pearce High School, where the team practices and hosts USA Wrestling–sanctioned events including the annual Mustang New Year Classic. His coaching focus is fundamentals first: stance, motion, level changes, and the discipline that carries over from the wrestling room into the classroom and into Richardson ISD high-school programs.
