Our Practice Season
Mustang Elite Wrestling competes and trains in folkstyle wrestling — the style used in Texas scholastic programs from middle school through high school. Our primary season runs from fall through spring, following the traditional folkstyle calendar.
Practices are held on weeknight evenings during the active season. The exact days and times for the current season are confirmed through the registration process and shared directly with enrolled families. They are also posted on our SportsEngine portal, so registered athletes and their parents always have the latest information.
Where We Practice
All practices are held at J.J. Pearce High School, located at J.J. Pearce High School, 1600 N Coit Rd, Richardson, TX 75080. The wrestling room is inside the school's athletic facilities. Enrolled families receive specific room details during onboarding.

What a Typical Practice Looks Like
Every Mustang Elite practice follows a structured, coach-led format that balances conditioning, skill development, and live drilling. Here is a general overview of what athletes can expect:
- Warmup and conditioning— dynamic stretching, movement drills, and mat athleticism exercises to get wrestlers ready and reduce injury risk.
- Technique instruction— coaches introduce or refine a specific takedown, position, or pin combination. New wrestlers focus on fundamentals; more experienced athletes build on existing skills.
- Live drilling and situational work— wrestlers apply what they learned in controlled partner drills. This is where technique becomes instinct.
- Cooldown— light stretching and team recap. Coaches highlight wins and set goals for the next session.
Arrival Tips and What to Bring
Plan to arrive a few minutes early so your wrestler has time to change and get settled before warmups begin. Here is what to bring:
Water bottle — practices are active and hydration matters. Athletic clothing — shorts or athletic pants and a t-shirt are standard. Wrestling shoes are recommended but not required for your first practice. For a detailed gear breakdown, read our guide on what to wear to wrestling practice.
Leave street shoes at the edge of the mat area. Keep valuables secured in your bag.
