About Us

A Community Wrestling Club Built for Richardson Kids

Mustang Elite Wrestling is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth wrestling club founded in 2019 to give Richardson-area boys and girls an affordable, welcoming place to learn the sport and grow as people.

Our Story

Mustang Elite Wrestling was founded in 2019 by Coach Rick Ibarra with a straightforward goal: create a community-rooted wrestling club where Richardson-area kids could develop strength, confidence, and discipline without the high costs common at for-profit programs. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a USA Wrestling–affiliated club that trains boys and girls from kindergarten through 8th grade at J.J. Pearce High School.

From day one, the club has operated as a nonprofit — meaning every dollar collected from families goes back into the program, the equipment, and the athletes. That mission has never changed.

Who We Serve

We welcome boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade from across the greater Richardson area and surrounding communities — including Richardson, Garland, Plano, Sachse, Murphy, and North and Northeast Dallas. The overwhelming majority of our wrestlers arrive with zero prior experience. If your child has never set foot on a mat, they are exactly who this club was designed for.

Our program is structured to meet athletes at their level. Beginners build fundamentals in a safe, supportive environment. Returning wrestlers deepen their skills and, when ready, pursue tournament competition. We group athletes by age, size, and experience so no one is overmatched on day one.

What Makes Us Different

  • Affordable nonprofit — our 501(c)(3) status means fees stay well below what for-profit clubs charge, and every dollar goes back to the wrestlers
  • Beginner-friendly — no experience required; most of our athletes started right where your child is
  • Character-first coaching — sportsmanship, discipline, and respect are taught alongside every takedown
  • RISD pipeline — we teach folkstyle wrestling, the scholastic style used by Richardson ISD high schools, building a direct pathway to J.J. Pearce, Berkner, Richardson, and Lake Highlands
  • USA Wrestling affiliated — sanctioned practices and tournaments with a proven safety framework
  • Girls’ wrestling included — a dedicated track ensures every girl is coached in a safe, age-appropriate environment; see our programs

How We Coach

Every session at Mustang Elite starts with fundamentals: stance, motion, level changes, and body control. Our coaching philosophy holds that a wrestler who masters the basics will outperform one who skips ahead every time. We teach technique before intensity, and safety before speed.

Sportsmanship is non-negotiable. We expect athletes to shake hands, respect opponents, and represent the club with pride — on the mat and off it. Parents and families are partners in that standard.

When wrestlers are ready to compete, we participate in USA Wrestling–sanctioned events and host the annual Mustang New Year Classic at J.J. Pearce High School. Competition is a tool for growth, not a scoreboard to chase.
